Tesla 'We, Robot' Event: Revolutionary or Controversial?

Tesla's recent 'We, Robot' Event was a step towards technological advancement with the unveiling of the RoboVanRobotaxi and humanoid robot Optimus. But, it was met with a lot of mixed reactions. In this blog, we shall take a closer look at all the new tech that was brought to light by Elon Musk and the arguments related to them so that you can form your own opinion regarding the whole situation.

Humanoid Robot Optimus:

Optimus Robots were a major part of Tesla's event, they were seen mingling with the crowd, playing games with them and serving drinks but, the fascinating thing was that they could even talk with the guests as good as a human. Now, this could be the most significant Robotics achievement in the world is it was a fully autonomous machine but many reports suggest the opposite.

Here's the interesting part, many articles and reports say that the fact that Optimus could carry out a conversation, alone, is a sign that the robot was was primarily being remote controlled .A tech blogger, Robert Scoble said that he talked with an engineer who confirmed that AI was controlling the robots when they were walking but for other tasks like pouring drinks, playing rock paper scissors or chatting with the guests, Optimus was being controlled by a human!

The Tesla Robotaxi:

The Robotaxi is an autonomous taxi that can drive customers from one location to another. It will be fully autonomous with no steering wheel or pedals. There will be only three physical controls in the entire cockpit and it will be embedded with a massive 21 inch touchscreen!

Another interesting thing about the Robotaxi is that it will have no Tesla logo, this is the same thing thing that is happening on the Cybertruck, it is the fact that everyone knows that the vehicles is a Tesla, even if it doesn't say anywhere.

Elon Musk claimed that this Robotaxi will be launched by 2027 and its price will be less than $30,000. Now, this is a very optimistic claim because as  Marques Brownlee said ,"When the Cybertruck was about to launch, they claimed that its base price would be $39,000 and today, the cheapest Cybertruck comes at $95,000! " So, it is most likely not possible for the Robotaxi to be launched at this price.

The Futuristic Robovan:

The Robovan is a very futuristic looking fully autonomous vehicles which is designed to accommodate up to 20 people and can also be used to transport goods.

The surprising thing that Musk revealed was that the Robovan's design was inspired by art deco trains popular in the 1930s! Industry watchers speculate that the Robovan could be used in various settings, including Boring Company tunnels and systems like the Las Vegas Loop.

Conclusion:

A major takeaway of the event was that personal vehicles could generate income while drivers go about their day. They can operate as self-driving taxis, creating new revenue streams for the owners.

The event did not have a positive impact on the stock price as Tesla's stock saw a 9% decline the following day. This drop led to a $15 billion decrease in Elon Musk's net worth!
